About me
Sarah Jack Hinners, PHD, LFA is the Director of Conservation and Research at Red Butte Garden and Arboretum at the University of Utah since 2023. An urban and landscape ecologist, she has a BA in Geography and Environmental Studies from McGill University and a PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Prior to her current position, she was on the faculty of the Department of City and Metropolitan Planning for 12 years and founded the Center for Ecological Planning and Design. She focuses on approaches to design that improve water availability for plants in arid climates, including urban stormwater management, and facilitating connections between people and Utah’s native plants and ecosystems. Sarah has taken a leadership role in stewardship of Red Butte Creek on campus. She is the co-lead for Visioning and Roadmapping for the Southwest Sustainability Innovation Engine.
